About Sandro Bocci
“Filmmaker and new media artist exploring the invisible through real processes—without CGI.”
Sandro Bocci is an Italian filmmaker and new media artist.
Fascinated by the complexity and beauty of the natural world, he has developed a unique style that blends macro photography, astrophotography, optical experiments, and fluid dynamics. His images—free of CGI or AI manipulation—are born from real, tangible processes, turning chemical reactions, light play, and hidden details into immersive visual experiences full of wonder and surprise.
Over the years, he has collaborated with Terrence Malick on Voyage of Time and Song to Song, and contributed footage to TV series such as One Strange Rock (National Geographic/HBO). He has worked as a contributor for institutions like National Geographic and UNESCO, while also creating immersive and transmedia art projects that push the boundaries of audiovisual language.
His first feature film, Meta (2012), won Best Documentary at SIFF 2013 and Best Cinematography at Premio Libero Bizzarri 2015. His second feature, Àpeiron (2021), was selected at several international festivals and awarded Best New Media Film at NRFF Dreamers of Dreams 2021. In the following years, his short films and installations were presented in prestigious venues including NHK Plus Cross Shibuya (Tokyo), SFO Museum (San Francisco), MIT (Boston), Meijijingu Gaien Memorial Picture Gallery (Tokyo), Los Angeles Public Library, Long Beach Airport, and EXPO 2025 Osaka.
His works have also been licensed for cinema, TV series, commercials, and other media—through Filmsupply or directly—by clients such as Sycamore Pictures, Warner Bros, National Geographic, UNESCO, WWF, the European Commission, Dom Pérignon, Shiseido, Google, IBM, Sony, Visa, Ford, Audi, Aston Martin, United Airlines, AWS, Audible, ESPN, Samsung, Puma, H&M, Specialized, the Natural History Museum of Denmark, and many others.
Bocci’s career continues to evolve, exploring the intersection of art, nature, and science. With his distinctive vision and innovative techniques, he invites audiences into worlds suspended between reality and dream, where the invisible comes alive.
